Cross-linked PEDOT: PSS as an alternative for low-cost solution-processed electronic devices

•New cross-linked PEDOT:PSS composite is proposed as active layer in organic electronics.•The composite shows great stability in aqueous environment and easy solution-processing.•The composite was successfully demonstrated as semi-transparent electrode.•High-contrast electrochromic system were developed using the proposed composite.•We provide guidelines to tune the film conductivities and transparency based on the composite content.
