摘要

•fs laser induced structuring of Al has been investigated for vacuum and O2 ambients.•Ripples, cellular structures and cavities were observed by SEM analysis.•XRD & EDS were utilized to reveal chemical and structural modifications.•Variation in hardness is observed for both vacuum and O2 ambients.•Relationship between surface, structural & mechanical modifications is established.
