摘要
Introduction: Elevated postprandial triglycerides (TGs) reflect a pro-atherogenic milieu but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. We examined differences between fasting and nonfasting plasma samples for profiles of lipoprotein size and subfractions across the spectrum of lipoprotein particles to assess if postprandial TGs reflected increases in very low density and intermediate density lipoproteins (VLDL and IDL) and their remnants, or increases in postprandial small dense LDL particles. Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of 13,460 participants (8,820 fasting; 4,640 nonfasting [u003c8 hours since last meal]) from the VITamin D and OmegA-3 TriaL (NCT01169259) who underwent a baseline lipid panel by VAP (Atherotech Diagnostics) and lipoprotein particle sub-fractionation by ion mobility (Quest Diagnostics). Multivariate linear regression model adjusting for traditional vascular risk factors was performed. Results: Mean age (SD) was 68.0 years (±7.0), with 51.4% women and 13.6% blacks. Adjusted mean triglycerid...
