•We identify 6 desirable attributes of methods designed to tackle wicked problems.•We evaluate Intuitive Logics Scenario Planning against these attributes.•We also evaluate recent augmentations of Intuitive Logics Scenario Planning.•We compare a range of soft operational research methods against these attributes.•We show scenario planning has benefits that complement soft operational research.
