Integrated supply- and demand-side energy management for expeditionary environmental control

•Environmental control is enormously costly for the U.S. military, especially in remote locations.•Environmental control units (ECUs) are currently powered by generators and are unmanaged.•We propose an optimization-based approach to coordinate multiple ECUs and generators.•By operating generators at higher loads, we achieve significant fuel savings (28% for the configuration considered).
