The design on buckling restrained braced structure of a Conference Center

The Conference Center is larger venue of 2010 Shanghai World EXPO. Due to the complexity plan and strict seismic requirements, the buckling restrained braces (BRB) are used. Based on the mechanics of BRB, the paper presented the principal of arrangement for BRB and the analysis method for structures with BRB. According to pushover analysis, the structural performances under different levels of seismic events were obtained, such as relationship between base shear and roof displacement, development of plastic deformation, and ductility of overall structure. The analysis results demonstrate that structure with BRB can obviously decrease the earthquake action on the structure and dissipate significant amount of earthquake energy, which leads to improvement of the overall structural ductility and the predictability of damaged locations. Construction stage analysis is conducted to verity the safety of the structure before installing BRB. The technical and economical comparison between BRB and conventional braced frame is carried out to illustrate the rationality and feasibility of BRB. The analysis results show that the structure with BRB owns higher structural stability, reparability and lower cost.
