摘要
Over the past 15 years, our work has sought to develop and evaluate reminding solutions designed specifically for older adults with dementia. This has led to the realisation that there is no one-size-fits-all solution and the carer has a large role in successful adoption. The TAUT study examines adoption through evaluating a smartphone reminder app with 30 persons with mild cognitive impairment and their informal caregivers, over a period of 12 months. Subjects where recruited from a pool of 348 previous participants of the Cache County Study on Memory and Aging (CCSMA 1995-2007). Data collected at 6 and 12 months included participant health, social factors, caregiver outcomes, and technology satisfaction. At the end of the study period, 12 of the 30 subjects were still using the smartphone app. Of the 18 drop-outs, 4 had died. 7351 reminders were set for all participants over the period. 78% of reminders where missed. 73% of reminders were set by the carer. Information relating to usage of the reminding solution, cognitive and functional health from the CCSMA, and medical and genealogical details from the Utah Population Database (UPDB) are used as inputs to the adoption model. Initial results, using 11 features from the CCSMA has shown positive results (F-measure= 0.895). Effects on caregiver outcomes found that a greater degree of reminder usage, was associated with lower caregiving time at six-month follow-up. The last stage of this research will gain further insight through inclusion of data from the UPDB and usage of the reminding solution.
