A hyperspectral imaging based control system for quality assessment of dried figs.

•A hyperspectral imaging system is proposed for detection of contaminated figs with black mold.•Feature selection outperformed projection methods in reflectance mode.•High detection accuracies are obtained in reflectance mode when the mold inside figs affect their outer surfaces.•High detection accuracies are obtained in transmittance mode at early stages of the contamination inside figs.
