Age-based life-history parameters of the mesopelagic fish Notoscopelus resplendens (Richardson, 1845) in the Central Eastern Atlantic

•The diel migrations of N. resplendens reach differences of 7 °C in the first 300 m depth.•N. resplendens is a “entire migrant”, showing a clear day-night habitat separation.•Three growth regions during ontogeny were observed in the otolith of N. resplendens.•Gomperzt was the best model to describe the growth of N. resplendens.
