A new approach to predict safety outcomes in the construction industry

•Regression models were developed to predict safety outcomes.•Using Canterbury rebuild database (New Zealand) between March 2011 and June 2015.•The concept of liable earning was utilised as the predictor to construct the models.•The models accurately predicted the safety outcomes at a macro level.•Characteristics of injuries are related to the number of companies in classifications.
