摘要
The integration of renewable generation leads to changes and challenges in the electrical grids. The replacement of conventional generation by renewables influences the grid significantly. Traditional equipment and techniques are not timely, efficient nor maintain reliability during replacement or upgrade of transmission. The deployment of temporary and mobile support for fast voltage response and regulation is necessary. A mobile STATCOM enables the transmission system operator to maintain voltage stability and tolerances while new transmission lines are constructed or shunt capacitors will be connected. This increases in importantance as generation and load centres are typically become more remote. A mobile STATCOM will be described in detail with its components and arrangement assembled on a flatbed trailer. The main parts consist of the transformer, the converter, the phase reactors and the control system. Advantages and possibilities of a mobile STATCOM will be demonstrated and simulated in the detailed model of the transmission grid of the UK.
