Hematologic and serum biochemical reference intervals for Vietnamese potbellied pigs ( Sus scrofa )

Hematologic and biochemical profiles were performed on 100, apparently healthy, 2 year to 10 year old Vietnamese potbellied pigs to develop reference intervals. Since hematologic and serum biochemical reference intervals are not available for this breed, often other breed reference intervals are used for disease diagnosis. Parameter values were checked for goodness of fit to determine if Gaussian or non-Gaussian distribution statistics should be used for determination of interval values. Differences may be associated with variations in environmental, physical, breed, or laboratory factors. Therefore, determination of reference intervals should be performed by each laboratory observing age, methods of analysis, and animal numbers.
