Archives and libraries which make use of the chemically and technically highly complex process of paper deacidification need assistance in preparing and executing the outsourcing of the work to service companies. ISO has now published a Technical Specification which stipulates the minimum requirements for effective deacidification. The paper presents ISO/TS 18344 and discusses changes to the existing assessment guidelines published by DIN. New test methods will help to improve assessment of the effectiveness of mass deacidification.
