•An attempt to stratigraphy and tectonosedimentary evolution for Çameli Basin has restored.•A constant deposition from early Miocene onward is proposed without actual age data.•It conflicts and deviates from the well-articulated stratigraphy and geodynamic.•We highlight complete marine and terrestrial fossil data for the Çameli Basin area.•An early-mid Miocene piggy-back basin is superimposed by Vallesian-Villanyian graben.
