摘要
In 2016, Gonzalo‐Juan et al reported the preparation of novel bioactive glass compositions based on silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) for the first time. These glasses are able to keep their amorphous nature up to temperatures as high as 1300°C. In this work, in vitro mineralization analyses were reported for different SiOC‐based glass compositions after incubating the samples in simulated body fluid at 37°C. Moreover, preliminary cytotoxicity assessments of the SiOC‐based bioactive glasses were performed in the presence of mouse embryonic fibroblasts as well as human embryonic kidney cells.Recently, Gaweda et al reported on the bioactivity and biocompatibility of SiOC materials deposited on titanium substrates. The Gaweda publication describes the investigation of SiOC compounds as bioactive materials. In the final sentence in the Introduction of their manuscript, Gaweda et al state “To the best of our knowledge, there is no work devoted to the study of the bioactivity and biocompatibility of black glasses.” However, our study on in vitro activity of SiOC glasses predates their study and they did not cite it. Furthermore, they incorrectly claimed to have been the first to investigate SiOC glasses for biomedical applications. We have brought this attention to the authors in hopes that they will correct the false statement in their study. Furthermore, we request that they publish an erratum to correct their mistake.
