•Synthesis of an acenaphthene–fused, π-extended tetrathiafulvalene derivative.•X-ray crystal structure reveals slipped π-π stacking interactions in the crystal lattice.•Formation of charge-transfer complex with 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) have been confirmed by spectroscopic studies.
