From trace to pure: Recovery of scandium from the waste acid of titanium pigment production by solvent extraction

•Trace scandium was efficiently pre-enriched by solvent extraction using D2EHPA.•Separation factor βSc/Ti was improved by adding H2O2 into aqueous phase prior to extraction.•A process to prepare scandium of purity 99.9% form waste acid was introduced.
