Evaluation of diazonium gold(III) salts in forensic chemistry: Latent fingerprint development on metal surfaces

•The application of aryldiazonium gold(III) saltsin forensic chemistry added novel surface modifier.•The deposited gold on latent fingerprints was detected using XRF and EDS.•The fingerprint development occurred on copper, lead and aluminum metal surfaces.•Spontaneous reduction of gold film on the eccrine secretion occurred.•Copper and lead showed better images contrast than aluminum.
