Levelized income loss as a metric of the adaptation of wind and energy storage to variable prices

•We describe metric to assess the economic performance of renewable generators.•It accounts for exposure to variable-price tariffs and wind power conversion aspects.•We also describe a dynamic program to compute energy storage system (ESS) switching.•All the analysis of optimality is done under stochastic conditions.•The index highlights inferior generation and values the improving capability of ESS.
