•Daily modelled NEE of all crop seasons agreed with observations (mean R2 = 0.7).•The SPA-Crop model was successfully parameterised for pea crops.•At-harvest cumulative NEE had a mean measured-modelled difference of +15%.•Mean yield was overestimated by only +2%.
