Coatings for extreme environments

Bulk materials submitted to extreme working conditions of temperature, pressure, irradiation, wear and corrosion require very often protection by means of coatings. Both single layer and multilayer coatings are employed to guarantee substrate durability in harsh environments. In this study we report about the possible substitution of critical elements in hard coatings and thermal barrier coatings.
