摘要
•Nanoscale p-n junction linking TiO2/CdS-NiOx photoanode was successfully fabricated.•Sputtering yeilds NiOx layers on the top of TiO2/CdS nanorod core shell structure.•TiO2/CdS-NiOx exhibits enhanced photocurrent of ˜30 mA cm−2 at 1 V vs Ag/AgCl.•Enhanced incident photon to current efficiency of ˜97% was obtained at 500 nm.•Under illumination, hydrogen was produced with 95% faradaic efficiency.
