Rapid authentication of mutton products by recombinase polymerase amplification coupled with lateral flow dipsticks

•The RPA-LFD is meet the requirements for rapid and on-site inspecting mutton fraud in restaurants.•It can only take about 30 min without special or expensive instruments but just simple heating device, such as chemical heater, battery-powered heater, or even human axilla under body temperature.•The RPA-LFD results were emerged as reddish band on LFD which could be read with a naked eye by untrained personnel.•Thit’s important for poverty-stricken areas where instruments and trained healthcare workers are deficient.
