Experimental investigation on upstream fuel injection technique of RBCC scramjet mode

•Upstream fuel injection is applied to RBCC engine for combustion enhancement.•Combustion enhancement method for heated/non-heated kerosene has been proposed.•High speed photography is used to observe the flame propagation in combustor.•Flame-stabilizing effect of the pylon and cavity has been discussed.
