•This study reports synthesis of carvacrol encapsulated nanoemulsion (CEN).•CEN exhibited potent anti-angiogenic effect in vitro and in vivo.•CEN decreased the activation of MAPKp38 and ERK in lung carcinoma A549 cells.•CEN reduced the expression of VEGF and CD31 both in vitro and in vivo.•Carvacrol bonded to COX-2 and VEGF at CD31 with low binding energy in silico.
