Non-oxidative aromatization and ethylene formation over Ga/HZSM-5 catalysts using a mixed feed of methane and ethane

•Ga/HZSM-5 was used for the production of BTX and C2H4 from CH4/C2H6 mixed feed.•The high acidity made Ga2O3 well-dispersed, resulting in enhanced initial activity.•With the increase of gallium loading, not only Ga2O3 but also GaO+ was observed.•At high gallium loading catalysts, the nonoxidative coupling of CH4 was promoted.
