Circadian melatonin profile in opium and amphetamine dependent patients: A preliminary study.

•Sleep problems in substance abuse patients may be caused by dysfunction of circadian rhythm.•High prevalence of circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSD) in substance dependent patients, possibly related to abnormal melatonin cycle.•Circadian rhythm-based interventions could play an important role in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.
