•Motion can lead to significant quantification errors during quantitative sodium MRI.•The navTPI sequence acquires both the FID and a navigator echo at no time penalty.•The navigator images provide sufficient features to derive the motion parameters.•Motion correction significantly improves the quantitative sodium image quality.•Eddy current correction is important for sodium imaging with the flexTPI readout.
