Metabolic profiling identifies TC and LDL as potential serum biomarkers for depressive symptoms in schizophrenia.

•The prevalence of comorbid depressive symptoms in schizophrenia patients treated with atypical antipsychotics was 53.8%.•Patients with depressive symptoms showed higher serum levels of LDL and TC compared to patients without depressive symptoms.•Serum levels of LDL and TC were significantly positive associated with HAMD total scores in schizophrenia patients after age, sex and education levels were controlled.
