Determination of constitutive parameters for predicting dynamic behavior and failure of riveted joint: Testing, modeling and validation

摘要
•Riveted joint was loaded dynamically under simple tension, simple shear and different tension–shear coupling states via split Hopkinson tensile bar. Both dynamically force equilibrium and almost constant loading rate can be achieved during the major deformation stages of the riveted joint.•Both failure load and failure mode show remarkable dependence on loading angle.•The positive effect of loading rate on the failure load was also observed in the experiments.•Three kinds of failure modes of the specific riveted joint can be observed. The failure mode seems only influenced by the loading angle.•The validated experimentally determined constitutive parameters can capture main feature of a simple structure with riveted connections subjected to foreign object impact.
