PCN243 REAL-TIME SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEWS (SLR) - DREAM OR REALITY WITH COMPUTER-ASSISTED METHODS: A CASE STUDY IN ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA (AML)

Up-to-date SLRs are required for healthcare reimbursement decisions. Unfortunately, comprehensive SLRs are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and often outdated by the time of completion. Congress presentations are often overlooked due to late indexing. Real world evidence (RWE) SLRs are rarely conducted. A computer-assisted method for systematic review of relevant congress publications in real-time was designed. The SLR “PubTracker” tool was used to search 10 AML-relevant congresses in 2018, following PRISMA guidelines with scope defined in terms of PICOS criteria (Population, Intervention, Comparators, Outcomes and Study Design), within one day of abstract release. Computer-assisted searching, identification and extraction methods were developed to expedite the review and replace one of 2 guideline-required trained researchers. Quality of life (QOL), economic and RWE studies were identified. The timing of evidence identification was compared to a traditional SLR collecting QOL and ECON evidence and updated annually. A total of 694 AML relevant congress presentations were identified at publication by the PubTracker tool (months: # publications): Apr: 4, May: 15, Jun: 185, Aug: 2, Oct: 2, Nov: 252, Dec: 234. Of these, 622 were RWE (conducted in 59 countries), 41 economic (2 indirect treatment comparisons, 7 cost-effectiveness analyses, 1 budget impact analysis and 19 resource use/cost studies), and 40 QOL. At the time of traditional AML SLR update in August-2018, database searches had missed 185 abstracts due to delayed indexing. As of December-2018, the traditional SLR was outdated and lacked 675 relevant abstracts, most of which were RWE studies. Our real-time, computer-assisted SLR tool allowed for earlier identification of potentially relevant congress presentations, solving an underlying problem with timeliness and comprehensiveness of traditional SLR approaches. Considering the fast pace of regulatory approvals and the necessity of up-to-date evidence in the reimbursement process, computer-assisted real-time SLR tool offers significant value to researchers.
