Organically templated metal phosphites: Ionothermal synthesis, crystal structure, and proton conduction

Two organically templated metal phosphites, namely, VO(HPO3)(tmg) (1), and Hpic·Ga2(HPO3)3F(H2O)·2H2O (2) were prepared under ionothermal conditions, where tmg = N,N,N-trimethylglycine and pic = 3-picoline. Compound 1 has a ladder-like structure decorated with tmg ligands, while compound 2 has a layered structure intercalated with Hpic cations. Notably, compound 2 shows a high proton conductivity on the order of 10−3 S cm−1 at 85 °C under 98% relative humidity.
