Controlling weeds in camelina with innovative herbicide-free crop management routes across various environments

•Herbicide-free camelina crop management routes were designed to compete with weeds.•Weed biomass was lower for each alternative than for the chemical weed control.•Increased camelina sowing rate reduced weed biomass and maintained camelina yield.•Camelina-barley intercrop significantly reduced weed biomass and camelina yield.•Camelina-pea intercrop highly reduced weed biomass without reducing camelina yield.
