Dependence of acoustic noise emission on the dissipated energy of plunging waves

•Estimation of dissipation of wave energy in the Ocean is up to date unresolved and the use of various methods is still in demand.•It looks that using underwater noise we would estimate the dissipation of wave energy during breaking.•The ratio of the conversion of wave energy dissipated in the breaking of small waves to the emitted acoustic energy was found and parametrised.
