Evaluation of pre-processing methods for the prediction of cattle behaviour from accelerometer data

•An inadapted signal filtering can dramatically reduce the performance of prediction.•Considering all the pre-processing steps together can improve the prediction.•Segmentation with fixed overlap improved the classification systematically.•Overlap should be considered when there is not sufficient data available.
