•Investigation of the impedance hysteresis of Li-ion cells at frequencies below 10 mHz with time domain measurements.•Low frequency impedance spectrum is influenced by the rest time after SoC setting, excitation amplitude and charge/discharge history.•Perfect agreement between time and frequency domain measurements after OCV-loop correction.•Transmission-line-model with integrated hysteresis behavior.
