Subcellular localization of chlorophyllase2 reveals it is not involved in chlorophyll degradation during senescence in Arabidopsis thaliana

•Chlorophyllase catalyzes the cleavage of the phytol tail from chlorophyll.•CLH2 is an isoform of chlorophyllase which contains a putative transit sequence.•It has been still unclear whether CLH2 is involved in chlorophyll degradation.•CLH2 is shown to be localized in ER and the tonoplast by membrane fractionation.•The results indicate that CLH2 is not involved in chlorophyll degradation.
