Learning Bayesian networks from demographic and health survey data

•We investigate the factors associated with childhood diarrhoea in India.•Demographic and health survey data is modelled using Bayesian Networks.•We use machine learning to construct Bayesian Network graphs.•There are large variations in behaviour across the different algorithms explored.•Applying knowledge to the learning process reduces variation between algorithms.
