•Anhedonia due to social isolation is alleviated by CART peptide.•Expression of CART and synaptophysin was decreased in the LH, AcbSh and pVTA of socially isolated rats.•Social isolation reduced CART mRNA expression in the LH and Acb.•Reduced CART signaling in reward pathway attributes to social isolation induced anhedonia.
