•Progranulin (PGRN) deficiency develops into age-dependent cardiac hypertrophy.•PGRN deficiency accelerates cardiac senescence.•Age-related cardiac hypertrophy due to PGRN deletion occurs through C1q-induced β-catenin activation.•Silencing the C1q-induced β-catenin pathway protects cardiac hypertrophy induced by PGRN ablation in vivo and in vitro.
