Validation of a self-implemented Walkway system for gait speed measurement in usual clinical care

•A new electronic Walkway system, non-expensive, easy-to-use, self-implemented, infrared technology-based is a valid method to determine walking speed in older adults in a clinical setting.•The automatic inclusion of gait speed data in the electronic medical records of patients allows for an easy and quick frailty screening in Geriatrics Outpatient Clinics.•The walkway system did present neither security problems, nor technical measurement errors.
