•Open surgical repair (OSR) of aortic aneurysms (AAs) could be associated with fewer subsequent cardiovascular disease events.•OSR of AAs could be associated with fewer incidents of subsequent acute myocardial infarction.•The advantage of OSR might be taken into consideration when treating AAs.
