Purpose: Human papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. The HPV vaccines help prevent oral, cervical, anal, penile, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. The Advisory Committee on Vaccination Practices (ACIP) has recommended HPV vaccination for females since 2006 and for males since 2011. HPV vaccination rates continue to remain lower than other age appropriate vaccines. ACIP recommends routine HPV vaccination at 11 or 12 years of age.
