Structure and in vitro dissolution of Mg and Sr containing borosilicate bioactive glasses for bone tissue engineering

•New borosilicate glasses with enhanced hot forming domain were obtained by substituting part of the Ca with Mg and/or Sr.•Phase separation (boron rich phase and silica rich phase) were evidenced by Raman spectroscopy.•Sr has a higher affinity for the boron sub-network.•Substitution of Ca with Mg and/or Sr leads to a decrease in the glass dissolution rate and precipitation of the reactive layer.
