Photodynamic inactivation of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus on skin using a porphyrinic formulation

•MRSA is a multidrug-resistant pathogen involved on skin and soft tissue infections.•The effect of a porphyrinic formulation (FORM) to photoinactivate MRSA was assessed.•FORM, without coadjutants, is a promising approach for MRSA inactivation on skin.•Potassium iodide (KI) and iodopovidone (PVP-I) were used as potentiators of FORM.•In vitro KI and PVP-I addition to FORM resulted in potentiation but not on skin.
