Towards an Immersive Guided Virtual Reality Microfabrication Laboratory Training System.

In this paper, we present a 3D virtual reality-based interactive laboratory training system that provided training on how to operate a variety of machines in a microfabrication lab environment. The training system focused on providing fully immersive guided learning features that helped users to learn the lab operations independently. The system consisted of a hint system that automatically highlights lab tools, VR hand controller assistance, and an auto scoring system. Ten participants were tested using the system. Preliminary results showed clear improvement in learning speed, independent learning ability, and error reductions during this immersive guided VR learning environment.
