A risk-based scoring system to quantify biosecurity in cattle production.

•An objective measurement tool is indispensable to assess biosecurity on farm.•The Biocheck Cattle is a risk-based biosecurity scoring system for cattle farms.•The tool was developed based on a literature review, a farm survey & expert opinions.•Mean biosecurity scores for veal, beef & dairy farms were 39.7; 44.3 & 48.6 points.•The level of biosecurity in cattle farms leaves room for improvement.
