摘要

•Effects of loading mode on mechanical properties of high strength steel (HSS) Q690 were studied.•Stress relaxation has negligible effect on dynamic ultimate strength and strain on HSS Q690.•Suggestions on tensile coupon test to obtain static mechanical properties of HSS Q690 were proposed.•Parameters of the Cowper-Symonds model were calibrated for strain rate effect of HSS Q690.
