A novel approach to emulate and detect packet loss on surveillance radar channels

Reliable communication is essential for the safety of civil aviation. As more and more services are operated on the civil surveillance radar channel frequencies, the probability of interference and packet losses increases. For precise and reliable surveillance, the Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) are required to monitor the packet loss rates. However, up to now, there is no system available which can perform this task. This paper proposes a novel approach how such a system can be set up. Initial measurements performed with our prototype are shown and discussed.
