•Pediatric HT recipients had altered mechanics of left and right atria.•Biatrial reservoir, conduit, and booster function are disrupted after transplantation.•Changes in atrial deformation were accompanied by significant atrial dilation.•Alterations in ventricular diastolic function or atrial geometry may be contributory.
